Magdalene is my mother's name - it would have been her birthday on the day I completed this one, so obviously my thoughts were about her life and my childhood and how my mother always was and still is, even after her passing, a voice of strength and protection in my life. I started out wanting to do a sun, but then thought a star would be nice in her honour - but the finished product does indeed look like a shield - a symbol of strength and protection.
I know know why I've heard the term 'starving artist' so often - I used up some birthday money and decided to also forgo buying annuals for the flowerbeds this year and instead, spend the money I would have spent on petunias, on some absolutely fabulous art markers. They are called Prismacolor and are somehow related to the Doodle Art Beryl markers of my childhood - the colours are wonderful and they go on so smooth - but they cost a small fortune - it is a good thing that I like dandelions in my flowerbeds anyway :-)
